Treatment

Conservation treatments vary in level of intervention, time required, change in appearance, and complexity. Below are some examples of conservation treatments that include structural work, consolidation, surface cleaning, varnish removal, loss compensation, inpainting, and varnishing. Each treatment proposal is unique because no two paintings are the same. Rigorous examination and testing are conducted to construct a treatment plan that is tailored to a specific painting. Even so, plans sometimes evolve over the course of treatment as we learn more about the piece.
